FEAD concerned about Parliament’s position on the revision of the waste shipment regulation

Recycling Insight – 18 January 2023 – The position adopted offers more legal certainty and harmonization objectives. FEAD welcomes the extension of installation confirmation deadlines to two working days, the acknowledgment of persistent and standardized delays in permitting processes and the requirement for all competent authorities to accept documentation in English. However, FEAD believes this was also a missed opportunity for needed reforms that will further boost the circular economy in the EU, for example by strengthening the role of pre-approved facilities. To underline the words of MEP Weiss, our objective is to have a “single European waste market”. The export regime proposed by the Commission is widely seen as a de facto export ban. FEAD recalls that it remains essential to safely ship ‘green list’ non-hazardous waste, which is a commodity, across EU borders for inclusion as secondary raw materials in manufacturing process.
